  • Hope Equals Responds To Palestinian Bid for UN Membership

As Hope Equals watches the events of the Palestinian bid for membership status at the United Nations, we stand in the complexity of being for people (civilians), of fostering hope and of striving for a long-lasting and just peace. To that end, and after much discussion on what we can do to act in solidarity with those struggling for peace, we call on you, our network of friends, student leaders, partners and supporters to do the following:

  • After Visiting the Holy Land My Pilgrimage Begins

In the summer of 2010, I was fortunate enough to be a part of Hope Equals first summer trip. The idea of the trip was to gain a better understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and to do this by meeting groups dedicated to bringing about peace and reconciliation. However, the goal of Hope Equals doesn’t stop there, but encompassed raising awareness about the conflict at home, back in North America.

  • Gimme' Five! Handful of Spots Left for Summer Trip

That's right, Hope Equals has five spots left for this summer's adventure and we are extending our deadline to May 10, 2011. If you were on the fence, this is your chance to make the choice and join us for the trip of a lifetime. You've read the books, watched the news, seen the documentary and maybe attended a few conferences, but what does it look like to be a peace maker in the Holy Land.

  • Spend Summer 2011 with Hope Equals

Hope Equals Learning and Service Trip

You've read the books, watched the news, seen the documentary and maybe attended a few conferences, but what does it look like to be a peace maker in the Holy Land. Well, Hope Equals has a five-week summer adventure to help you experience that for yourself. Walk the land, meet the people and hear their stories.

  • 'Hope Equals' Offers Speakers

Chris Meehan of CRC Communications writes an article about the recent Hope Equals trip to Israel and the West Bank. He highlights their journey as well as how this impacts their lives back here in North America.

  • Students Promote Peace Through Hope Equals

    by Chris Meehan

A barbed-wire-topped barrier erected by the Israeli government snakes across the West Bank to separate Israelis from Palestinians. In some places it’s merely a fence; in others it’s a wall complete with guard towers. In still other places it separates the homes of Palestinians from the farms or businesses where they once worked.

When Micah Schuurman, a student at Calvin Theological Seminary, first encountered the wall on a recent trip to the West Bank, he was deeply troubled. It left him with a startling image.

In the centre of Trinity Western University's Langley campus stands a makeshift wall, dappled with fluorescent graffiti and marked by one choice word: Hope.

  • 2012-Your Summer With Hope Equals

If third time's the charm, then charmed you will be. This is the third year we hope to send a group on the Hope Equals Summer Adventure, and it just keeps getting better every time. Using what we have learned in two years, what our alumni have told us, and what our partners recommended, we tweaked and pulled and changed the schedule to offer the best five-week experience yet. Make no mistake, this experience beats watching the news, reading the books, and attending the conferences. There's nothing like walking the land, meeting the people, and hearing the stories.

  • 'Christ at the Checkpoint' Conference Scheduled

Bethlehem Bible College, tucked into the city in which Jesus Christ was born, is sponsoring its first-ever international conference in hopes of drawing more attention to the issue of what the Bible has to say about who owns the land in that embattled part of the world.

  • Calvin Symposium on Worship

Registration is open for the Calvin Symposium on Worship, January 28-30. This annual conference is held at Calvin College & Seminary and sponsored by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and the Center for Excellence in Preaching.

  • New Resource: Cradle of our Faith

Why do we care about Christians in the Middle East?

We care for the indigenous Christians in the Middle East because we realize that at its roots Christianity is a Middle Eastern religion and that we are the spiritual descendants of Middle Eastern Christians. We also know that what happens in their region impacts our economy and our security.

The CRC and the Middle East

In recent years, the Christian Reformed Church has begun to delve into the complicated issues of the Middle East. Highlights include a 2007 study trip to the area, resulting in numerous recommendations to the denomination, and a strong partnership with the Reformed Church of America, who has a lasting missional presence in the region. The CRC is a member of Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP), a coalition of 22 Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant national churches and agencies.
