Hope Equals Responds To Palestinian Bid for UN Membership

About

As Hope Equals watches the events of the Palestinian bid for membership status at the United Nations, we stand in the complexity of being for people (civilians), of fostering hope and of striving for a long-lasting and just peace. To that end, and after much discussion on what we can do to act in solidarity with those struggling for peace, we call on you, our network of friends, student leaders, partners and supporters to do the following:

1.     Pray. Pray hard for the leadership of the Israeli and Palestinian people as they face the decisions they make. Pray, more over, for the civilians in both communities who will have to face the challenges of whatever the outcome is.

2.     Americans: Demand that the United States be an honest broker for peace. A year ago, President Obama said that he looked forward to welcoming Palestine as a member to the United Nations. Since his speech in May, he has reversed his position and is now threatening to veto the Palestinian bid for membership. Why is this? What has changed?

3.     Stand with both the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authorityin telling congress NOT to pull US aid from the Palestinian Authority. To do so would only destabilize the region further and could result in violence towards both parties. To act, click on CMEPs advocacy campaign and follow the instructions to contact your congressperson.

Sincerely,

Your Team at Hope Equals
